There where a few things going on at Polzeath when I left the beach this evening. Firstly a few small marquees have been put up for the The National Senior Life Saving Sport Championship 2011 which is being held at Polzeath tomorrow. Organised by Surf life Saving GB.
The event will start at pretty much first light tomorrow and will be runnin through to Sunday. It's a multi-discipined event that test the atheltes skills in disciplines based on the equipment and skills used by lifeguards.
With 13ft of swell forecast for Sunday there could be some very testing conditions for these competitors.
The Surf life Saving GB is a volunteer beach lifesavers club, that teach Lifesaving skills and compete in Life Saving sport. And they are the awarding body for the the highest standard of Beach Lifeguard qualification in the country.
Take a look at the Surf Life Saving GB website for more information.

Also on the beach where a group of people letting off about 30 odd lanterns, I have no idea what this was for - anyone know ?
