This is a photo of Jo and she is a total inspiartion, nothing will stop her getting to the surf, she is a true wavehunter… here is her story…

In here own words…..

“i came to polzy 2005 for a month and never went back! – id been battling since 2002, a virus which affected my brain and developed into ME/Chronic fatigue. i had moved away from the south coast to be cared for by family as the syndrome had left me struggling with basic tasks but i was very unhappy and needed a sea fix. i chose to come to polzy for some respite and found being back by the sea very therapeutic. i fell in love with polzeath and the rest is history. my recovery is going well but my symptoms vary daily and my ability to walk any distance is still a challenge so i use a wheelchair and various mobility aids these can be restricting though and can make accessing the beach (my first love) independently very difficult. i was on the beach with my sister one day. she was struggling to push me in my chair on the sand and we saw a family with a segway. they were so generous and allowed me to have a go – i travelled further accross the beach on the machine than i had ever done in 18months of living here and that was it - i bought one - a second hand ex demo offroader. The segway means i can travel safely ( ish i have taken two big tumbles) and independently on the beach and therefore travel alone or join friends walking and take part in rockpool rambles etc but it also means i can get into the sea which i find so energising and i have begun to learn to surf (slowly)!! its gonna take time but im a firm believer in Accept Adapt Live – choose a goal and whatever ur restrictions make it happen. the chance meeting with the family and their segway has changed my life for the better and iv been smiling eversince :) x”

Not only is Jo a legend she also with her mate Abbey run the Polzeath marine centre;  an epic organisation that totaly look after our beach and others for free. They never make a show or dance they just get on with it: check them out http://polzeathmarineconservation.com/Home.htm.

This year we have a whole day http://polzeathmarineconservation.com/Whats_On.html on the beach for PMC team (2nd April)

We love Jo’s story and how she came to being in Polzeath,  and because of her inspirational Story we are going to offer a free hoody to any one with a inspirational story especially if it’s in our neck of the woods… Jo come and grab yours any day….
