This year the Rock Oyster Festival is being held at Dinham House, which has to be one of the most beautiful locations for a festival in the UK.  If you haven't been there before and your going this weekend then your in for a real treat.

Rock Oyster Festival is now in its second year and is billed as a food, music and arts festival thats run not-for-profit and raised £4,000 last year for nominated charities the RNLI and St.Minver School.  This year the festival is supporting Cornwall Hospice Care and the Army Benevolent Fund.

There is literally something here for everyone with plenty of family entertainment and with some pretty good live music acts in the evenings.

One that sticks out for me is Bentley Rhythm Ace who I'd seen back at Glastonbury Festival '98 in the mud.  And who where one of my festival highlights of the year.  Billed as a 'big beat' band at the time, the kind of music Fat Boy Slim was playing around this time.

And on Saturday Newquays Ruarri Joseph who released his second album last year and The Easy Star All Stars from New York should also be a pretty good highlight bringing the reggae vibe to Polzeath.

For a food highlight then the  “Shuck Fight”, a race to see who from a hand full of top chefs can prepare a selection of oysters in the fastest time possible, should be pretty good.

This year also see's the addition of onsite camping at  £8 per night for adults and for £4 per night for children.  I couldn't imagine many places nicer than this to wake up and at present the forecast is for 'white cloud' so let's hope the rain stays away.

Weekend passes for the festival are priced at £32 for whole weekend, £16 for 12-18 year olds. Friday evening £10, Saturday night £20, and £3 for day only tickets on Saturday until 6pm. On Sunday, entry is £3. The festival is free to enter for all those under 12 accompanied by an adult. All in all these seem like a very competitive prices for what's on offer.

My only concern of the weekend is the parking and any disruption to traffic.  Based at the bottom of gut hill the normal entrance to Dinham could be difficult, however I hear that there's another entrance coming from the Windmill side that will be opened.  Hopefully the oganisers will have fully thought of any possible snags.

For more information take a look at the Rock Oyster Festival website and when your there make sure you check the Ocean Blue Clothing stand.

And a special thanks to St.Moritz Hotel the sponsors.

What do you think of the Rock Oyster Festival is it good for the community or will it go the same way as the K Festival ?
